Another Win!

Back in March the bowls club fielded the winning team at Frant's quiz night. That quiz went to a tie-break question which went our way. On November 24th, a similar team confirmed that bowls is not a game for the feeble-minded by repeating the win at the latest Frant quiz night held in the Memorial Hall. The quiz was a well-supported fund-raiser for improvements to the hall.

Have you had enough of cricket or golf, knitting or flower-arranging? (No gender stereotyping here - anyone can do either.) Consider lawn bowls next. A chance to get outdoors and be competitive (but not too seriously) with a sociable crowd.

Everyone - experienced or absolute beginner, young or old, is made welcome to the club. Equipment is supplied and all we ask is that you wear shoes without heels. If you are new to the game then we are able to offer unofficial coaching by experienced bowlers.

Ordinarily matches are played most Saturday afternoons and Wednesday evenings during the outdoor season, which starts around the middle of April and continues until mid September. Informal roll-up sessions for members and non-members are normally held from 4.30pm on Tuesdays. Please feel free to contact one of the contacts listed.

2023

The 2023 season has now finished with our inter-club match results showing a predominance of wins again.

The finals day, August 25th, was completed with rain only slightly marring proceedings. The day was well attended with recent members featuring in all but one competition.

Jeff Holloway and Peter McDonald won the drawn pairs final in the morning leaving Ray Kemp and Shirley Jefferey runners up. After the usual excellent lunch the final of the President's Cup was the first to finish in which Colin Skinner, in his first season won against Rob Neve.

The Two Wood competition was played between Brian Cook and Diane Young with Brian emerging the winner.
In the final final of the day Audrey Hall overtook husband Chris in the last two ends of the Open competition, snatching victory from the jaws of defeat! An exciting end to an excellent day.

The final match of the season was a successful game against Deanland and a final roll-up and iteration of the Tuesday Cup confirmed Michael as the winner of this season-long contest.

Presentation Dinner

The annual dinner was held at Crowborough Beacon Golf Club on November 17th. It was well attended and President Bob Garratt presented the trophies. Unfortunately Peter McD had double-booked the evening but all other winners were present and pictured below.

The Green

The green has survived the season incredibly well. We have received many compliments from members of visiting clubs and we have visited clubs which have had much more serious problems that we have.

As always in the first week of October James has completed the Autumn renovation work including scarifying, Graden treatment, overseeding, fertilising and top dressing. In addition some selective application of top dressing and flattening by ladder-dragging has been carried out by James and Chris. With luck the weather will be kind to it over the winter.

Help us

Perhaps you'd like to support the club in some way but without the excitement of playing club matches? If you can add to the bar turnover or assist with keeping the green and surrounds maintained your support would be welcomed.
